Umberto Finzi

Born in Milan on 20 march 1939.

1965   Master in Physics at the University of Milan -Thesis on spectroscopic measurement of plasma temperature.

1966-1968:   Assistant to the Chair of General Physics at the University of Milan (Prof. Caldirola) - Physics teaching and Plasma Physics research.

1968-1972:   Joliot Curie scholarship holder and then visiting scientist at the Saclay research center of the French Atomic Energy Commission – Experimental and theoretical research in Plasma Physics.

1973:   Doctorat d’Etat ès Sciences (PhD) at the University of Paris VII – Thesis on the stationary solutions of the Vlasov equation.

1972-1974:   Scientific Officer of the European Commission seconded at the Grenoble research center of the French Atomic Energy Commission.

1974-1984:   Scientific Officer at the European Commission, Directorate of the Fusion Programme (Director : Prof. Palumbo) – Contribution to coordination and management of european research on thermonuclear fusion.

1984-1995:   Assistant and then Advisor to the Director General of Research (Prof. Fasella) – Contribution to conception and management of the european research policy in general and on energy reseach in particular.

1996-1998:   Director of the Fusion Programme - Coordination and management of european research on thermonuclear fusion.

1999-2000:   Director Coordinator of the research programmes «Environment, Energy and sustainable Development» - Coordination of european research programmes in the fields of environment and energy (including the fusion programme).

2000-2006:   Principal Adviser of the Director General for Research (Dr.Mitzos), in charge of fusion and the ITER project – Coordination of the european participation and lead of the european delegation in the negotiation of the international ITER agreement.

2004-2006:   After retirement in march 2004: Consultant to the Research Director General for the ITER agreement (concluded in Paris on 21 November 2006).

2008:   Coaching trainings ROOT and GROW: Certificates recognised by the International Coach Federation.
